Breast cancer awareness month- recovering as a whole

14 Oct

FemiLift is all about improving women’s well-being and quality of life. It does so by addressing issues such as stress urinary incontinence and vaginal atrophy. It helps both young women after childbirth and more mature women during and after menopause. But it is not so publicly known it has considerable benefits for female cancer and breast cancer survivors of all ages, too.

The Wikipedia definition of “cancer survivors” is very simple. cancer survivor is a person with cancer of any type who is still living. It was created to describe the broad experience on the cancer continuum — living with, during, and beyond a cancer diagnosis. However, the everyday life of these brave people is not simple at all, especially women.

The most common cancer type diagnosed in women according to surveys 2012-2016 is breast cancer. Many of the women who are afflicted by it deal with the consequence of having to surgically remove one or both of their breasts. Luckily, modern solutions such as fat grafting allow full breast reconstruction. Still, many of these female survivors must endure what’s referred to as “collateral damage”. This predicament can be quite devastating to their emotional and sexual life. Modern life-saving treatments include Chemo and radiotherapy, as well as hormonal therapies. These treatments, in many cases may cause very severe side effects.

Other than vaginal atrophy, breast cancer therapy side effects may include:

  • Vaginal dryness
  • Vulvar dystrophy
  • Skin Rashes
  • Pain during sex
  • Urine leakage

The women who are still in their fertile years are essentially experiencing menopausal symptoms. Their self-esteem and femininity are in jeopardy, which in some cases can lead to severe unhappiness and even depression.

Breakthrough CO2 laser technology can help

Until recent years, the main therapies available for these issues were hormonal treatments or invasive surgery. In many cases, hormonal treatments cannot be used on women diagnosed with tumor given the high risk of relapse of the illness. Other short-term solutions are using lubricant gels. Luckily, modern laser technology offers new instruments capable of effectively treating these conditions. CO2 laser devices such as the FemiLift are proved to be very effective because they directly stimulate the production of collagen, which restores the elasticity and natural lubrication of the vagina.

The benefits are clinically proven

Dr. Paolo Scollo, director of gynecology at the Cannizzaro Hospital of Catania, Italy, recently led a study with 35 volunteer oncology patients. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the production of collagen after laser treatment. This study, published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, has clearly demonstrated that thanks to laser treatment, Epithelium thickness tripled. In addition, a survey was conducted among the patients after 6 and 18 months in order to assess their degree of satisfaction. The satisfaction rate reported was 80%! Moreover, biopsies carried out further confirmed the astounding results of the FemiLift treatment. This study was the starting point of the national campaign ‘FemiLift for the quality of life of oncology patients’ presented March 2017 at the Ministry of Health in Italy.
